Gratefulness is a Choice

I’ve wanted to start blogging now for several months. It was a fear thing for me. What if I say something wrong? What if I offend someone? What if someone takes the wrong message? It has to be perfect. Well, if I wait for perfect, it will never happen, so today is the day. Today, I step out of that fear and step into the world of blogging. Yikes – go easy on me!

As I sit on top of the Rock of Gibraltar and meditate on this beautiful sun shiny fall Sunday afternoon, I can’t help but feel so incredibly blessed and grateful. Blessed with my hubby by my side after being gone all week at a work conference. Blessed with a strong and extended family and friends who stand in support of me – no matter what. Grateful for this spectacular fall in WI view I have right now. The colors are like nothing else. Grateful for a career and a company that has served me and my family very well over the years.

My career path has afforded me the opportunity to work in both our internal and field operations. For those of you who share this experience, you know what I mean when I say that although both worlds are very different, both worlds work very hard in the pursuit of the continued success of this company, we call American “Family” for a reason. In January of 2015, I stepped away from the “field” as a sales manager and back into a role internally at NHQ. Since that time, I have seen business partners from across the company pull together in a #oneamfam effort and deliver quality tools at an unprecedented speed. And there is so much more to come!

This past week culminated the delivery of many of those tools and marks momentum of big change and a bright future for our independent business owners and our company as a whole. I’ve grown up with this company. It’s all I know. I’ve been known to say I bleed red, white and blue. Good, bad or indifferent, it’s probably true. 😊

Over the past year, being back “inside”, I have a renewed energy for American Family. The reason is simple. It’s because of the people, hands down. Sitting in nature on this amazing hilltop, I stop and reflect on how big and transformational things can happen, when people truly pull together. When people trust in one another, understand and accept each others strengths and weaknesses and team up to do better than expected. I can think of so many examples all across the company, internal and the field, of this happening this past year and it all came together this past week.

My message is to surround yourself with positive people. People who lift you up. People that make you a better person. People that make you smile and people that make you happy. People that dare to be different. And, people that shine their light bright each day. Stop accepting anything different. Don’t ever settle.

No matter who you are or where you work, the day has come when we can choose to expect positive and reject negative. It’s just not acceptable anymore. Vulnerability makes us strong, not weak. I guess like with anything else, we all make choices that lead to our reality, that pave our way. Today, I choose me. I choose me, which inspires me each day to BE better, SERVE better and DO better.

How about you? Are you with me?

Love & Light
